Waldorf Weekend Review

This week we bagan our second Math block.  We focused on learning addition and subtraction with the help of around-the-house-and-yard manipulatives.  (We used crayons, acorns, whatever was around.)  In the spirit of not being married to a perhaps overly adhered to tool (see Stephen Sagarin’s awesome article on this for more on “freeing the math gnomes”) we did not use math gnomes as story and representation.  Rather, I used the low-key squirrel story from Christopherus to introduce addition and subtraction, and we moved on from there.

Next week we will learn multiplication and division.  I need very much to remember to focus on counting by 2’s and 3’s with her before the close of each lesson for this block period.
