Miss Grace has turned 3! This child has recently discovered that birthday’s are both special days and filled with incredible fun. She told us a couple mornings in a row, “It’s my birthday today!”

Raising Grace is, I imagine, a lot like raising me, or what raising me must have resembled. Grace is the toughest little lady I know; she was born knowing exactly what she needs and wants…there is no inner conflict for this girl! I remember her as a tiny little baby making it perfectly clear that she did not like the mattress in the new room; she would only settle and sleep when put back on the bed in the big room. She has an innate sense of justice and what is right and wrong. It’s actually amazingly to see in action, although complicated to parent, indeed.

Grace also has the most open heart I know; she loves completely and without reserve. This is the part of her I hope we can protect and nourish; I hope she never feels a necessity to learn to guard her heart or tone down and mute her big emotions.

We had a lovely family party for Grace, complete with decking the tree for its second season of giving. Gracie called it, “My birthday tree for the birds!” It’s appropriate that this is the theme for Grace’s birthday celebration, because she gives to each of us everyday.

Happy Birthday, Gracie-doodle! We love you to the moon and back.
