Haiti

The tragedy in Haiti is getting a lot of media coverage, which is awesome; so so happy about the awareness which is being raised! But a couple things to keep in mind before you donate to a charity were talked about recently by Gabrielle Palmer.

A brief summary on my part: often times when disasters hit, aid and relief workers bring a flood of formula into the country which can dramatically raise the death rate in children under the age of 5. The World Health Organization (among other organizations) warns implicitly against formula being given out in disasters unless there simply is no other option (no mother or wet-nurse available). Something to be aware of when/if you donate.
